Introduction
I am sure there are many who would agree that the 1950/60s were the years that changed the face of farming more so than any other period. It was a time when tractors were advancing in design at a rapid pace, from small horsepower T.V.O to high speed diesels, draw bar pull seemed to be loosing it's significance it was now three point linage with more powerful hydraulics and live P.T.O Fore wheel drives began to show prominence, safety cabs with more comfort were also fast becoming the norm. Larger and more efficient implements were readily for sale on the dealer forecorts.
Forage harvesting was a great step forward into grassland husbandry that was further accelerated by the introduction of the revolutionary Disc Mower. New machinery for potato and sugar beet harvesting increased output beyond belief, bulk handling had arrived in a big way. Implements for seed bed preparation and sowing gave the farmer a wide choice, and they were encouraged to attend working demonstrations frequently arranged by dealers.
Being an agricultural engineer of that era gave one a great sense of responsibility and tremendous satisfaction, but my most treasured memories of those years were selling and servicing combined harvesters. This book is therefore dedicated to all those who purchased, used, or maintained those machines that were manufactured by one of Sweden's most successful company's Bolinder-Munktell.
